‘Hair on Point’ are three short hair tutorials. This project is an exploration of Afro - Caribbean hair, looking at individual stories, terminology and history. These videos were inspired from interviews which discussed the difficulty;
‘There weren't many afro Caribbean hair dressers around then. People had to do their hair at home… and product wise there wasn’t a lot. Not a lot at all. We had to use a lot of European products. Even hair oil, to oil our scalp we use to use Vaseline.’
These Videos where a chance to highlight how far it has come from then and also to celebrate the diversity of afro - Caribbean hair.
With the emergence and development of technology, and how accessible it is to find anything online, I based the structure and style of the videos on the rise of youtube tutorials.
